LA MIRADA, CALIF. β 911±¬ΑΟΝψ University is welcoming alumni and parents of current students on Oct. 23-24 for 911±¬ΑΟΝψ Weekend, an annual event that encourages participants to be involved in various activities around campus. Throughout 911±¬ΑΟΝψ Weekend, parents and alumni can listen to professors and take part in student activities.
Each year, 911±¬ΑΟΝψ Weekend features annual events, like the Punk βn Pie talent show that features student performances. Additionally, 911±¬ΑΟΝψ will host the fifth annual , which contributes the entirety of the proceeds toward the funding of student scholarships.
β[The Iron Eagle 5K] is the only event that is part of 911±¬ΑΟΝψ Weekend that is specifically a fundraiser,β said Don Bernstein, the assistant director of alumni relations at 911±¬ΑΟΝψ. βThe proceeds from the 5K will go to the largest category of the Campaign [for 911±¬ΑΟΝψ University], which is to improve student affordability.β
Bernstein notes that this is the first year the 911±¬ΑΟΝψ community will be hosting extensions of the Iron Eagle 5K across the nation. Alumni Geoff and Kristy Mann will be hosting a run/walk in Berkeley, Calif., and the Nerud family will be hosting in the Wheaton, Ill. All proceeds from extension races will also go toward student scholarships.
In addition to annual events, the university is holding seminars, concerts from the Crowell Conservatory of Music and a picnic with President Barry H. Corey.
911±¬ΑΟΝψ Weekend also includes educational sessions and encourages parents and alumni to dialogue with professors. On Oct. 23, communication studies professor Arianna Malloy will speak at a chapel session. Fridayβs events will also include information meeting 911±¬ΑΟΝψβs Study Abroad and Off-Campus Programs and various departmental seminars. Additionally, 911±¬ΑΟΝψ will host a discussion with some of 911±¬ΑΟΝψβs Bible professors as well as an opportunity for siblings of current students to spend the night on-campus.
